A big family wedding — bright colours, dancing, delicious food... but what I loved most was simply being together.

THIS is what we moved back from Australia for.

Seeing the children in traditional clothes, playing hide and seek with their cousins and making desperate pleas to “stay a little longer” reminded me just how vital social connection — and culture — are to our wellbeing.

The Blue Zones highlight how belonging and community contribute to longevity. Yet today, loneliness is on the rise, especially among young people — with real consequences for our physical, emotional and mental health.

High levels of loneliness increase the risk of heart attack and stroke by 30%.”

As social beings, being around others isn’t enough — we need connection that feels meaningful and nourishing.

I love this quote from Brené Brown:

“Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

A gentle reflection for you:
Think of a relationship that feels nurturing — how do you feel in their presence?
- What do you value about it?
- Is there someone you know who might benefit from a check-in this week?
